Nasal spray that has been designed for heightening sexual appetite will soon enter the third phase of clinical trials, that is the final round of testing before the drug goes to the Food and Drug Administration for review. If the spray gets FDA's approval it will enter the market in three years. The spray contains an odorless and colorless synthetic chemical called PT-141that is a medicinal aphrodisiac, i.e an agent that heightens libido. Testings show that the drug starts working within 15 minutes after one puts the inhaler up the nose and popps a does of PT-141. What to women, they feel genital warmth and tingling as well as «strong desire to have sex». Among men the data set is richer. According to an anonymous patient who took part in testing, with PT-141 a man feels good in general, not only sexually aroused. Also the patient reported feeling younger and more energetic. Another 58 year old patient said that he had sex with his wife twice in one night and he was delighted with what was happening in the bed. Patients do tell the difference between Little Blue Pill and P-141. All the patients say that viagra does involve so much humming, throbbing and tingling. How does PT-141 work? In fact the precise mechanism is still unclear. Roughly speaking the idea is this: while Viagra gets in the circulatory system and contributes to blood flow to genital area, PT-141 goes straight to the brain. Here, in the brain the chemical switches on the same neural circuitry that lights up when one has desire to have sex. Once Platin Technologies, that is the New Jersey-based maker of PT-141 gets FDA approval for the spray, the company plans to market the drug to the same Viagra targets: male patients who suffer from erectile dysfunctions. Also the drug might get approval as treatment for female sexual dysfunction. Perhaps the drug will be intended to give relief to postmenopausal women and other women who for some reason experience lack of libido. |
