World Naked Bike Ride against Pollution

The World Naked Bike Ride is going to take place on the 10 of March 2007 in Australia. This annual event is an optional protest for naturism, environmentalism and peace as well as for the right of cyclist for safe use of the road.

Sex and nudity do seem to be very popular ways to improve this world. Do you remember about Global Orgasm for Peace Day which took place on the 22nd of December? This was a global anti-war demonstration which implied that everyone in the world who wanted to make this world less aggressive had to achieve orgasm on this day thus releasing together with millions of people kind energy which might stop wars.

World Naked Bike Ride does not imply sex, but still there is some certain similarity between this event and Global Orgasm for Peace. By the way, one of the Global Orgasm for Peace organizers got together a group of women who being undressed cried out the word "Peace" on a hillside in San Francisco. Nudity protests against anything preventing humans from normal living.

The World Naked Bike Ride is not a race as it goes at an easy pace. There is going to be only one element of competition in this event: each cyclist will demonstrate the ability to decorate his or her body with paints and slogans in most peculiar way. Yeah, the riders are not going to be just nude, they will paint their naked bodies with slogans, piece signs, hearts and flowers.

In fact the participants of the ride do not have to be absolutely naked. The dress code of the event is as follows:"Go as bare as you dare!" so it does not promote daring sexual behavior in public.

What do they protest against?

The protestants say that burning fossil fuels cause serious environmental damage which includes such great troubles as climate change, air and water pollution and acid rains. As well burning fossil fuels cause health problems including such diseases as asthma.

Use of nuclear fuels makes humans exposed to nuclear radiation which causes cancer, genetic mutations and even death.

Violence is seen everyday because of wars fought over oil. Motorised vehicles injure and kill cyclists and pedestrians. Peaceful world must include safe roads!

Everyone who wants a future for tomorrows generation should do something to stop exploiting mineral energy, polluting the Earth and learn to respect all life and continue spreading this message.

Organizers and participants of the event see facing automobile traffic with their naked bodies as the best way of defending their dignity and exposing the dangers cyclists and pedestrians have to face as well as to expose negative consequences that all humanity has to see due to dependence on oil.

A bit of history

The World Naked Bike Ride group was created in order to coordinate naked bike ride between different groups from all over the world. The first naked bike ride took place in 2004. It was collaboration between WNBR goup (rode on the12 June) and Manifestación Ciclonudista in Spain (rode on the 19th of June).

Since that time, the World Naked Bike Ride has involved over fifteen cities in about twenty countries! Thousands of riders participate in the annual event every year. WNBR takes place twice a year. This is due to differing climates.

In the Southern hemisphere WNBR takes place on the second Saturday of March. It includes Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil and Florida (USA) as weather is quite comfortable for naked ride at that time of the year.

In the Northern hemisphere World Naked Bike Ride much larger. It includes much more rides and much more participants. This demonstration is most popular in Europe and North America.
