US study conducted in American schools showed that early beginning of intimate life can become a trigger point for acting delinquently. More than 7,000 adolescents were surveyed to find out the average age when teens loose virginity. The results were disturbing as the research disclosed that early first-timers showed 20 percent increase in asocial behavior.
Otherwise, teenagers who began their sexual life later than other peers showed lower delinquency rates a year after the first survey took place. A co-author of the project that was conducted by Stacy Armour -a student from Ohio State University claimed it was as much as 50 percent decline of delinquent cases for teens who waited for their first sexual experience.
Questioning adolescents in different schools were research was conducted, it was disclosed that average age of their first time sexual experience occurred between around 11 and 17 years, due to the data that was reported in Journal of Youth and Adolescence.
A discernible growth of delinquent behavior in 58 percent of cases is noticed among younger teens. These were teens who were younger than other school peers.
This correlation though doesn't indicate that teenage sexual relationships cause delinquent behavior, but it shows a warning sign for those adolescents who are early first-timers. Though nowadays, teens are more likely to wait longer for the beginning of sex life, the general tendency still remains unchanged. The average age for youth will not range drastically and thus it may become a serious problem due to the data revealed in the study. It is still unknown why sexual impatience is so closely related to adolescent delinquency, but it can be a crucial factor for youngsters to think over a more thoughtful choice concerning their virginity and sexual debut.
