Formula of Unfaithfulness

Since one cannot fall in love voluntarily, neither a man has the right to complain about unfaithfulness of his beloved woman, neither this woman can complain about his fickleness, La Rochefoucauld had written long before appearance of researches of modern scientists who claim that unfaithfulness is an almost incurable characteristic of a human being.

The fourth year

Sue and John were a happy family. John was a successful businessman and Sue is a translator at a big company. They fell in love with each other almost at the first sight, they married very soon and gave birth to their beloved daughter Suzy. They seemed to be an ideal couple. No one could expect that after four years of their being together they would get divorced. But this happened after Sue met Michael at a conference.

Michael was a calm and a tender man, contrary to active and very emotional John. „This was not just sex, - says Sue - this was something more, this was an absolute harmony.“

Trying to find reasons for her unfaithfulness Sue realized that everything that was between her and John was false. They only imitated true love and sexual harmony and did not dare confess absence of close relationships. Sue realized she could not simulate feelings towards her husband.

„Such situations are common“ - Helena Fisher, a psychologists says. Having studied statistical data on marriage and divorce she came to the conclusion that maximum number of divorces occurs during the fourth year of marriage.

Serial monogamy

Serial monogamy - this is how modern matrimonial relationships are called by scientists. This „monogamy“ implies the following: you stay together with a partner being absolutely faithful for four years, then you find another partner for the next four years, and so on. Helen Fisher suggests a historical explanation of this phenomenon -“ Ancient people сreated families only for „species conservation“. When a child became four year old the tribe took care of him whereas his parents chose another partners. We were not born to be in love and to be happy. We were born to reproduce ourselves.

Marry only non-achievers!

British sociologists made a sensational discovery: the more educated a person is, the more he or she is likely to be unfaithful. Persons who did not do well at school turned out to be the most faithful spouses, whereas men and women with university degree commit adultery twice more often than school graduates.

According to researches this can be explained by the fact that educated persons are more wealthy, thus their life style implies more possibilities for extramarital sex.

Women are getting more unfaithful

Men and women have absolutely different attitude towards unfaithfulness. A Swiss psychologist carried out a very interesting experiment. Hundreds of married were asked the question: What would you prefer: your partner having a lover but loving you, or the opposite, your partner having sex with you but at the same time thinking about anyone else? All men chose the second variant whereas women chose the first one: let him sleep with another woman, but he should love only me!

It is considered that men are much more unfaithful than women. In fact a third of married men at least once cheated on their wives. However, circa 25 percent of women as well had extramarital affairs. Scientists note a dramatical increase in female unfaithfulness rate.

An Isralian man began to suspect his wife of unfaithfulness after he received huge phone bills. The man decided to carry out his own investigation. The man was shocked by his wife's talks on the telephone. It turned out that his wife had seventeen lovers at the same time!

A little statistics

Here are a few facts concerning adultery. An anonymous poll of 600 married couples showed that only a quarter of spouses have never cheated on their partners. On average men begin cheating after six years of marriage whereas most women do that after five years of being married. Interestingly enough, 25 years ago most U.S men were faithful during 11 years and women during 15 years after wedding.

Being afraid of STDs and AIDS 46 percent of Americans changed their sexual behavior, however 54 percent continue having extramarital affairs.

All these frightening figures and percents cannot deprive a person of natural need to love and to believe in the partner's devotion. Most adult persons, even most unfaithful ones don't want to believe that their partners cheat on them. Still only 40 percent of spouses get divorced after adultery. Human beings can forgive those whom they love. .

Remedy for unfaithfulness

American scientists are about to invent a „remedy for unfaithfulness“. They discovered a chemical which influences mice in a very interesting way: male mice begin taking especial care of their partners, do not cheat on them and do not leave them even for a minute. Being inspired by the results of their experiment scientists began development analogous pills for humans. Will there be volunteers to test the new drug?
